I decided to withdraw a perfectly nice and well-processed shot of a swan in favour of this completely insane image. I fully expect, and will receive, another atrocious score to reflect another piece of unusual decision-making. But I don't care - because this shot interests me in the way the swan didn't.

For this challenge I really wanted for the subject to be in the centre and yet not at the same time, without any real idea how to achieve this. I was also keen on the idea of it being heavily framed to accent the subject's position. A quick stroll to the beach led me down by a groyne and I started snapping shadows as people walked past. It wasn't until I uploaded the shots that I noticed the leg poking out. And here the framing helps too as the subject himself escapes being 'centered' and retreats into the darkness.

Converted in channel mixer, levels adjustments, bit of USM and conversion to duotone.

Is this a McGiver, and he rigged up a bomb with a piece of lint and a box of redhots?

This a great creative capture. The only thing I see is I would clone out the leg in the scene so only the shadow is present.

This is a great idea but for photojournalism. the focus is there and the story is great. I like it.

great capture, excellent black and white conversion as well as beautiful tonal range, and great framing. If I made awards this would get one.

I like the shadow I'd have cropped much closer.

I'm not sure the framing in the foreground adds to this photo.
