Greetings from the Critique Club...
Hi Drake...
Some subjects seem to work better for zoom bursts than others. This one has some potential probably. I'm by no means an expert on this technique because I just tried it for the first time recently. Here is my example shot:

As you can see, there is room for refinement. I haven't had time to experiment more with the technique yet, but this shot was created by creating a tight composition with the zoom, and then zooming OUT from the open shutter. I tried several variations as I was working this subject, and I discovered that this technique worked best for me. I also zoomed out at a speed that left me a small amount of time at the end of the exposure to 'lock' in the subject with some clarity. Camera shake is always an issue on these...

I think you mean vertigo. You know what would have been really cool (though pretty tough) would have been to rotate the camera as you moved in. That would have really fit with the classic sensation of vertigo. But, that aside, this is a very well executed shot. I think a little more negative space at the top (or maybe less negative space, by a tighter crop) might have made the composition a little more interesting. |

I don't like the zoom effect here, does not seem to fit weel with the composition of candles. |

Very interesting picture. The motion is good but it doesn't really enhance the subject matter as candles don't normally move. I like it though - very neat effect. Is the word Verdigo in the title supposed to mean dizziness? If so, I think the word you meant to use is vertigo with a t. |

VerTigo is definitely a sense that zoom bursts can create. I think you did a decent job with this technique. It's not easy. I tried it for the first time myself this week... = 6 |
