 ~4 months old Australian (Inland) Bearded Dragon (Pogona Vitticeps), our pet.
The top screen of the enclosure (terrarium) was pulled back halfway with the lamp (a commercial fixture with 2 75W incadescent bulbs and a 15W UV-emitting fluorescent positioned to its front edge. Used a tripod with independent leg angle adjustment to take a steady closeup shot from the basking lizard.

Cropping: only ~15% from the left side.
Levels, stauration, sharpening, noise optimized in Capture NX (RAW) and in PS CS3. Spot editing: Background made 'evenly lit' by burning the right side. Some reflection from the background and ~3/4 of a piece of feces on the basking wood as well as some sensor dust were cloned /patched out. Shadow/highlights 5-5% applied in a way that the eye was excluded (would have become too dark). Some of the too bright spikes were furder burnt a tad.
