I was not at all happy with the quality of the images I shot at the beach today. There was very little detail or clarity in the distance. I used the landscape mode, so I expected clarity throughout the image. I'll have to remember not to use this camera for landscapes.

This shot is just a bit of a joke. I saw this young woman lying there like a corpse, so I'm calling this my CSI shot.

I think the real story is that this girl was at the beach to totally enjoy the experience and wash away all her stress. She sat and dug a hole for a while, and then lay down soaking up the beach and sun while the waves gently washed over her. I admire her ability to ignore convention and give in completely to her impulses.

Even though this at first seems simple, you keep looking at it to figure out the story behind it. Did she start to build a sand castle and suddenly realize that an adult doesn't do this and start working on her tan... or maybe she's waiting to be buried by one of the kids. Haha! Great shot with color and focus just right!

It's a beautifully composed, coloured and lighted joke. (I'd laugh a little more if I hadn't spent part of the day shoveling horse and donkey poop in the rain). pixelpig has once again nailed the flavour of it all.

Funny shot Juli B. The girl looks like she tired herself out building the sand pile LOL.
My eyes are drawn to the water, and my mind is calculating the depths by the colors. I am guessing 1.5 ft at the end of the wave, 4 ft out to the shallow sand bar or rock underwater, and about 20 ft where the nearest boat is running.
I feel that there is plenty of detail and sharpness in this shot for a P&S beach shot on a bright sunny day. I guess that we are sort of spoiled by our DSLR's.
I miss seeing that golden sand of the east coast beaches.

I'm fascinated by the reflection of her arm in the wet sand. Didn't miss her head. Distracted & fascinated by the excavation in the sand & the lumps of sand in the water & the footprints & the uncaring yacht speeding away. A scene from a 1970's Italian movie, maybe.

you are going to get me in big trouble leaving a comment on a photo with a young woman in a bikini!

The CSI comment is a riot - when i first looked at the shot - i couldn't see her head so i thought she might be some headless corpse - yikes! Anyway, good details in teh sand, the young woman, and the sea - a bit oversharpened in spots but pretty darn good!

The light looks pretty harsh, so I think that you have pulled a lot of detailout under difficult conditions. I think with the harsh light Iwould have gone with an aperture of f8 or hiigher if possible.

I like this, very nice colours and made me chuckle :) The sea looks great, makes me want to go for a swim!

honestly I think there is plenty of detail in this one.

Even without your title, there is an odd sense of humor in this one--maybe because the woman is so close to the water. I also like the minimal feel to it. I think at dpchallenge its always shoot for engrossing totally detailed sharp pictures, whereas there are more minimal shots like this that are still nice to look at.

LOL at the CSI shot! I really like the different shades of blue from the water to the sky.
