This huge bird was seen during my spring break in Dutchess County, New York at my grandmothers (non working) farm. At first I thought it was a wild turkey, and I was partially correct, however I then discovered the carcass of a coyote, which led me to believe it might be a vulture (also partially correct). My friend at Cornell helped me to find out that is was in fact a Turkey Vulture.

You can read about Turkey Vultures on Cornell's ornithology website

I'm not sure whether this was my "best photograph" taken during March... but I am pretty happy with it, so I thought I would share it. Comments as always are appreciated :-) Enjoy!

You should aways try to edit out any sign of wires or cages. It detracts from the wildness of the creature and make it look like a sitting target for your camera... a bit too easy.

Nice DOF but you've lost shadow detail in the feathers, at least on my monitor.

Looks as if you got this fellow in the wild! Very good redition of a much needed (but not very elegant) bird. 8

I am not sure about details on the chest - looks like underexposed and noisy. Still, very good shot and moody character!
