I think this would have been more dramatic to have the black bean in the foreground and sharper than the white beans, which could maybe have been in the back, and not as sharp. Still, liked this :)

I would have liked the black jelly bean in the foreground, with the other beans to the back. Still, I like the idea.

The subject of your out of place, is out of focus.

The black bean shouldn't be blurry, higher aperature will fix that, if you didn't know

I think this is an okay image but would have been better if the darker bean was the main focus.

Why is the main focus of your photo -- the bean of another color-- the only one out of focus?

Good idea and meets the challenge. The white beans have good color to them and stand out well from the background, with just the highlights a little blown. Because of the dof used the black bean (or is it blue?) looks somewhat like a dark blob. I'm assuming you were going for the ostracized look, which does work, but I think having the black/blue bean be more in focus and more defined would be better, even possibly moving it to the lower right hand corner.

I like this photo a lot, but I think the out of place idea would come across stronger if the focus was on the odd bean.
