Used a big bulb to light this up so could hold the camera. Used -1 EV to reduce the reflections.

This is a nice ticket to the "way back" machine. It reminds me of long ago, when I was the one who emptied them in the classroom in grade school. Nice close up of a fine little machine that hasn't changed much in a long time.

once again, the details and perspective take a utilitarian object and provide it a new life

I too like the green with the macerated wood shavings. Good texture again, but would like more in the way of composition. (I did use a pencil yesterday - was d- lucky to find one too).

What? people are still using #2 pencils? "D I haven't sharpened a pencil in a long time, but I recognized this, no problem. Nice directional light & great detail.

I like it the way it is. With a black background the subject wouldn't stand out, and I like that nice green of the pencil sharpener. I think it would work in b&w or sepia, but I think something would be lost too.

Fabulous subject! Good detail, textures and colors! The light background is competing for attention and it would be interesting to see the same photo with a black sheet of paper or converted to sepia. Nice old-timey feel!
