A single 8 minute exposure of the "trio in leo", a tight grouping of galaxies (m66, m65 & ngc 3628) about 35 million light years away. Post processing crop, curves & contrast and a dab of noise ninja. Photo taken with a canon 350xt, Anttler's optics 10" newtonian telescope, light pollution filter from Hutech and Losmandy g11 mount.
Thanks for all the comments and questions. OK, so next time I go without the border! The effective focal length of this "lens" (telescope actually) is 50 inches, so that's about 1250mm. Getting a noise free image with any detail from a single exposure is very challenging to say the least, so astrophotos in basic editing are not going to be all that pleasing, but I tried my best within the context of the rules. Also, some comments below indicate that that bright star threw off the "triangle" composition, I was aiming to present the triangle of galaxies (the star is not a galaxy), aka the trio in leo, the leo triple, the leo triangle. This grouping of galaxies is located right near Leo's hind legs. |

The frame makes it look as if I'm seeing this through a window, something that doesn't work good here. Maybe you meant to confine the space and the lack of a point of attention, but...
As for the rest, you know you're quite a master of astrophotography and you don't need me to tell you that. |

It's hard to believe you shot this in the sky! Is it painted with light? |

Oh my goodness look at all those triangles; too many to count! I think it would be slightly improved if you had tilted it so that the galaxy to the left was centered vertically. I'm not sure if I like the border or not... I'll sit on it a few days and get back to you.
*A few days later: Nope, don't like the border. Reason being, these kinds of pictures are too cool on their own to ever warrant a distracting border. |

The four more prominent elements on this photo make up more of rectangle than a triangle. |

It's kind of a square if you count all four objects. |

Great astrophotography, and easily the most original entry in the challenge. A nine for you. |
