Greetings from the critique club.
To be honest, my motion pans haven't been the greatest but there are a few tips I can pass on.
Try to capture the object when it is perpendicular to you (i.e. right in front of you) rather than at an angle.
Also try to get your aperture correct to get the whole object in focus, yet being shallow enough to leave the background blurred.

This means that you might have needed a longer lens in this situation so that you get a narrower depth of field. (So roughly speaking 55 mm at f/8 would probably be about right in this situation). What this means is that the subject doesn't have to moving that fast to get the background blurred properly and you can concentrate on getting sharp focus on the subject.
Now I have to go try all this out... |
