This was shot when I first got my D40X and I was so excited I just started taking pictures of whatever I could find. I ended up using it for my Motivational Poster II seen here.

Darkening the backdrop such that the industrial elements disappear really help the fence and the lock & chain become the standout main focus. And wow, what a difference converting the color version to the B&W because now with the dynamic range in contrasting tones the textures really pop visually. The eye more readily sees the pits, spots, and rust on the fence pipe in the B&W than it does in the original. You took the mundane from a color snapshot and added visual pop & grunge feel with the B&W final composition.

Love it, I have a very similar shot that I snapped recently. It was at the Eastern State Prison. Something about old locks and chains just gets to me.
I went back and checked your motivational poster processed shot ... you got a lil ol 9er from me.
I really like what you've done with this subject.

First I see gwe21's submission, then I moved on to timfythetoo's, and now yours. Three amazing examples of B&W processing. Added all three to my favorites so that I can refer back and see how I'm progressing.

This is one of those edits where you wish this is how it looked in real life. It suits the subject perfectly.

Excellent B&W conversion. Care to share how you did it?

Great xfer to B&W. I really like the way you kept, even enhanced the metal quality.

Niiice and contrasty :) Really popped out the spiderweb too. I love the metallic sheen on the chain and lock now. Very good edit!
