Here is my entry for last years four elements challenge. It did okay but everyone that sees it thinks it's just out of this world awesome. I have to say the processing took a while. I have the steps on my home machine, as soon as I get home I will post them so you can see how insane I am.

STEPS:
Applied very strong USM
Burned mud on arms and hands
Adjustment layer Levels
Flatten layers
USM
Burn background around hands
Adjusted hue/saturation
Adjustment for curves
Painted arms and hands with a dark brush for highlights
Adjusted brightness and contrast
New adjustment layer hue/saturation
Flatten image
Duplicate layer
Auto curves
Invert layer
Set blending mode to color dodge
Applied strong Gaussian blur
Merged layers
Dup layer
Set blending mode to overlay
Merged layers
Dup layer
Applied a slight Gaussian blur
Set blending mode to multiply
Adjustment layer brightness/contrast
Adjustment layer selective colors
Adjustment layer hue/saturation
Flatten layers

definitely post your steps. I wouldn't naturally be able to think that far ahead in processing.
very strong image, and without the before, I would never guess how much it was processed.

adding: well JESUS! thats quite a few steps. I'll have to try something similar on a different image. thanks

Holy Crap! That IS out of the world awesome! Very disturbing and powerful. i think it's the green tones that really makes it click.

Very interesting transformation. The orginal shot has the feel of: "I found it... the gift of water; life can continue" albeit with a little soap in it. The second picture has, for me, the feel of: "oil, polution, death and disease..." All in all, the second image is very powerful.

I don't know what you had in mind, but I think the transformation is remarkable.

Awesomeness in your hands man! I really like the edit, especially the grass that I can still see around your hands. Makes it feel earthly while still giving it a sense of, 'Oh crap, what IS this green metal stuff?' hehe

Washing your face off in the local mud pond? : )
Cool shot, and the before and after is a big jump. I like the edge of the water in the hands. It looks a lot like mercury.

ewww!!! LOL. the ONLY thing I can see wrong with it is that around the hands its not burned enough (I can still see the grass) pretty cool picture though!

wow .. this is brilliant .. love the grungy feel and that oily stuff in your hands ... the colours are amazing .. if you went overboard on the processing i'd have to agree that you are totally insane .. i'd never go to such lengths .. !!..:)
