Northern Curly-tailed Lizard

This species is native to Bahamas and was intentionally introduced to Palm Beach in 1940. I don't know why. They are abundant around Delray Beach; I see them scurrying everywhere.

They like to eat shiny beetles, and once, while I was standing quite still, one came up and tasted my toenail polish. They seem to like music too, because they gather around my iPod player. I am really quite fond of them.

They don't seem to want to be inside; they have never been a problem in our house although they are abundant in the garden. They are not very cute, but they are fun to watch, because they are so busy.

Oh, I think he's cute ;-) It's the tail and the utter confidence in his pose. Like your composition here.

Cute pose! I like the subtle colours too. The light stone he's standing on makes his dark colouring really stand out, but there aren't too many bright colours to distract from him.

Cool subject and nice of him to pose for you.

I bet these guys can really move, looks like he decided to play nice for you and give you a chance to snap his pick. We have lizards here in Missouri but they are all way to skittish for me to get any close good shot. The DOf looks a bit shallow as his head looks a bit oof, a nice pic regardless.

Great capture, I suspect they dart around quite quickly!

Oh I disagree wholeheartedly ... he is so very cute. They are also very fun to try to photograph ... sort of an exercise in futility. BUT you did a great job of catching him.

Love the curl in his tail - makes him look very superior :- )

This is cute. Having him pose on the edge put the background out of focus and makes the lizard stand out nicely. There are a lot of them on the Bahama islands, but I didn't know that they were also in Florida. I lived in Delray in1970, and don't remember seeing them at that time.

Nice capture! The title and DOF is good. However, I would like to see a little more sharpness in the eyes. Good composition!

Anything that eats beetles would be welcome in my garden. Not sure about the toenail polish fetish ;-)

Really cute tail, I must say. I can just see a little dance line of them bopping along to your iPod, tails entwined.
