Normally this is the kind of scene I like to do as an HDR with at least three exposures, but I was driving down the freeway while taking this out the window so multiple exposures of the same exact scene was not possible :-)


Adjust color temp and curves of RAW image in Nik Capture NX; save as jpg
In Photoshop:
Apply Neat Image
Apply LucisArt Whyeth
Selectively increase saturation on clouds and lit ground with sponge tool
Create layer in soft light mode to bring out highlights on ground by painting with light gold
Adjust levels
Some dodging and burning in clouds
Crop
Resize
Apply USM
Save for web

colleen .. this is just amazing ... your original was 'nice' ..
your processed version is so dramatic and awesome (in the accepted sense of the word!!..) .. it actually gave me that punch in the heart when i opened it ...
ahha .. i'll have to try the "Create layer in soft light mode to bring out highlights on ground by painting with light gold " if i remember !! .. it looks like an excellent action .. love that yellow/orange line, which could be mist or fog near the horizon .. it is an excellent element in this brilliant image .. WOW .. and WOW .. !!
