I didn't totally understand the definition of high contrast so I'm no help there. Did you have your camera on auto mode? I have found that helps sometimes when there's a strong light reflecting in your direction. Oh I do love the scene tho. Nice balance with the crane(?) and the rocks.

If only the darn bird would have co-operated and let you get a nice shot of him with some rimlight for the high contrast, and yet not have the purple fringed highlights in the background. Wildlife should really take better direction. ;) |

contrast is so high that it made this photo a bit out of focus, which I imagine was intensional. |

The glare on the water is blown out, and the heron is lost in the dark water. |

I'll assume that you were intentionally trying for this painterly, soft focus effect, but I don't know how well it's going to be received by most here. |

Love the composition but the water sparkles are too jarringly bright and pink. |
