A last minute shot - I had a choice of two shots for this challenge and had to call this one in the end.

This is a Critique Club Critique

I really quite like this image - the deep tones, the bright highlights, the limited mid-tones all work well. The composition is great; the leading line implied by the cyclist, the repetition of circles in the wheels and pavement, all the lines and angles meeting and dispersing in the architecture. The man, man on bike, empty bike and mannequin set up wonderful vibrations, as does the unmet gaze of the cyclist - or rather, we meet his gaze, not the book buyer, at whom it was aimed.

The overall feeling of the work is great, it really feels right. Well doen indeed.

I'm really surprised that you didn't finish higher with this shot. I gave you and 8. A very nice capture in my opinion.

The figure in the doorway gives this a feeling of really being there. The high contrast makes it seem like a drawing. Very nice.

Lovely scene and treatment. I would, however, placed your reader into a chair or something to make the newspaper or book more visible. it's not most obvious that he's reading.

cyclist is distracting. too many details in background. like sepia ..5

Stark and real. The eye line from the biker to the man with the newspaper combines beautifully with the deep DOF.

Perfect tone for this shot, this is one of my favorites.

Well seen opportunistic "street photography" sort of image. The long shadows support the "late afternoon" feel. If it were a bit less dark, we might actually be able to see some books--I think there are some there on the left, but not sure. I like the tonality/color of this image. 7

Very nice. Has an old-worldly, almost Cartier-Bresson feel to it.

This is my favorite of the challenge. I love the rim light on the man in the foreground.
