Challenge: Window View (Advanced Editing I)
Camera: Canon EOS-10D
Location: Youngstown, NY
Date: Apr 10, 2004
Aperture: f/5.0
ISO: 100
Shutter: 1/400
Galleries: Interior, Landscape
Date Uploaded: Apr 10, 2004

This was made on April 10, at Fort Niagara, in Youngstown, NY. The view is from a back window of the building pictured in my submission to the Wheels challenge (See: //www.dpchallenge.com/image.php?IMAGE_ID=68276).

The lighting was low within the building, and I didn't want to use flash, opting instead to get the transparent effect from the cut glass in the window panels.

I selectively tweeked levels and contrast in each of the highlight areas, and did a little cloning out of defects in a couple of the window panes.

Thanks for voting, looking, and/or commenting.

Distance could be a little sharp.

I think I would have biased the focusing to the view rather than the window but nice shades of blue

all the different shades make your shot stand out above the rest.

clean and simple.. :)
I just wish that the bg was in focus, but I know the limitations of my own digicam so there's nothing really to say about that.

One of my favorites... only missing Dali's wife :)
Maybe it will be even better on days without fog.

Like how I'm seeing many different blue tones in this picture. Simple composition. works well. The frame is devided into three. 8 from me.

Have to give this a 10. There is really no other choice in the matter as far as I can see. 10

I feel that the lack of the depth of field takes away from this photo. Having the water in focus would have added more interesting detail.

Wonderful shot. I love the light in this capture. Maybe some clean up near the window sill to smooth that area out. Good entry hope you do well with this.

I like the symmetry and repetition on the left hand side, balanced by the open window on the right. A good range of of blue tones too. Very restful image.

The multi colors window panes are neat. If you diddn't use a tripod, try using one and stopping the lens down so the horizon is also sharp. Nice composition.

Love this one! The combination of the different blues is awesome, perfect composition with one open and one closed window.

Fantastic idea... did you tweak the some of the squares in the window with Channel Mixer? Excellent idea, it really makes the picture great. The water color is a little "off" however, I think. And the "outline" around the water kind of bothers me.

Great idea, but poor execution...looks oversharpened even though it's still very soft.

Beautiful. The stained glass in the blue colors really accents the view nicely, and the light coming in on the open half of the window panes is very pretty, too. I'm not sure what to think of the actual view being out of focus, as opposed to the window itself, but since there's nothing specifically out there except water, I think it's enough of a view to give you the general impression of what you're looking at, and that's probably enough.
