Last minute entry ... almost forgot to enter until I saw the boasting thread for the FSM. Whew. Took this shot on June 21 (the Summer Solstice, hence the title) on a short hike up to the Dish on the Stanford Campus. We were down in Palo Alto for a wedding, and took a quick hike up to the Dish in about 100-degree weather Saturday morning before the wedding. Saw these two trees on the trail, liked the shot immediately when I chimped it, then liked it again when I was chimping for a last minute entry for the FS that I forgot to enter!
Edited in Lightroom -- Exposure, Clarity, Vibrance, lots of color channel work -- then just a resize and USM in PSE 5.0. I think some are not going to like the white fringing where the grass meets the sky, but I kind of liked the effect and decided to leave it in. Decided to go without a border for this one, since I think the border constrained the image too much and interfered with the sweep of the landscape.
I like this shot. Hope it ends up over a 6. |
