Challenge: Weathered (Basic Editing)
Camera: Olympus E-300 EVOLT
Lens: Olympus 14-42mm f.3.5-5.6 ED Zuiko Digital Zoom
Location: Vasquez Rocks, Southern California
Date: Jul 7, 2008
Aperture: f/8
ISO: 100
Shutter: 1/60
Galleries: Landscape
Date Uploaded: Jul 7, 2008

Edited mostly in RAW: White Balance, saturation, curves, USM, Clarity, etc. Later, Highlights/Shadows, another curves layer, Crop.

I'm really not good at landscape-y things. Pretty sure none of my lenses like focusing at infinity. Kinda a problem.

Taken at Vasquez Rocks National Park. Pretty spectacular in person. Used my el cheapo non-circular polarizer :P

Add this to the pile of otherwise good images with a blown highlight in the corner.

great colors, but I agree with yanko about the texture of the rock.

Judging by your edit and your title I am going to assume the texture of the rock face is what you found of interest. If so getting closer would have helped here, IMO. By zooming out you make this rock face appear more flat and you lose the sense of the texture and the depth it has. Other than that this is a pretty compent shot. In terms of your PP work I would get ride of those dark halos that your edit produced. If you have photoshop use the stamp tool for this. Just set it to "lighen" mode and then on a duplicate layer sample an area right underneath the dark halo and then paint over it and it should disappear. Just FYI, if you have a white halo you want to remove just change the mode to "darken" instead.

IMO the composition is not engaging. Perhaps if the light were better it would be.
