critique club**
i like the subject matter and the title of this picture. it would have been nice to see this from a different angle. or at dusk or early mourning. it needs something else to give it some spunk. image seems flat and simple. background is too plain. i think this picture would have been good at dusk with a spotlight on the cross. keep up the good work and i hope this helps. constructive critisim i hope!! 8) good luck with the next challenge!

I like your idea, but maybe a different angle would have been better. This angle kind of flattens out the cross. The branches are a little bit interfering, and don't really help with your message. Religion is definately something that I would feel has strength...

decent composition, though I felt it was a little soft, the concept of strength was not clear to me

While I agree with the photographer in the perspective that faith in God and the cross of Christ is our true strength, the photo needs some strengthening: compose the limbs to point to our embrace the cross; the cross seems a bit wimpy to exemplify true strength; remove the unsightly composition tiles on the church roof, clouds with sunlight breaking through to highlight the cross would have been more moving a choice of background.

For some reason we always get a lot of christian-specific symbols in these challenges. I like to vote on a) uniqueness and originality b) good composition c) excellent lighting that makes the image "pop" (I have trouble with this myself) d) good DOF (if appropriate) and e) a crisp, clear image free of tons of noise and compression artifacts. I'm starting to feel the religious and american symbols are not as unique anymore. This one has good composition, but the lighting doesn't really make it pop. I'm not sure what you could do differently with the lighting. Maybe if it was taken at a different time of day. There is very little light noise and the image is sharp, but it just needs someting extra to grab attention. The lighting may do this for you. It seems like there is a lot of noise and pixelation. I realize I'm only one voter - the Christian thing doesn't really bug me, but I'd just like to see something a bit more original or unique. - 5

Very subjective judgement of strength. You claim it is "true strength", which is your perogative. I claim it isn't, and vote 1.
