Challenge: Strength (Basic Editing I)
Camera: Canon EOS-300D Rebel
Location: Brazos Bend State Park, TX
Date: Apr 11, 2004
Aperture: f/5.6
ISO: 400
Shutter: 1/125
Date Uploaded: Apr 12, 2004

I took this shot after the sun had set and the light was fairly low. I didn’t think I would get anything useful but what the heck, it’s digital and doesn't cost anything. The lens used was the EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM and the shot was hand held.

great shot and colors

Wow! Fantastic colour. I just returned recently from Africa and saw many birds eating snakes and frogs but none with such a vivid blue colouring. And his beak too! I think a wider DOF would benefit this image.

Poor frog! Great capture.

Brillian colors, but they look a bit oversaturated. Is the bird really that blue? This is certainly a different take on the theme.

Fantastic capture. Poor froggy! Not wild about the depth of field; I wish his back was also in focus.

Nice use of DOF. Good nature shot. Colors don't seem real - too punched up.

great capture but the colors are too unnatural

Great capture, although seems like it is a huge lens zoomed in and a bit fuzzy. Might be better to shoot a wider scene to get a faster exposure, then crop it down to this size. You can't control it, but would love to see this scene with the bird facing toward you instead of away.

Or is it the Blue will overcome the green?

very cool photo. a bit blurred by the motion, but i don't think he was waiting around to be pictured. not really a 'strength' shot but still fun.

very narrow depth of field and you got is just right.

Nice catch there! For you that is. like the litle motion blur. 9

Stunning color. I think a tight crop on jus the head of the Heron would worked well.
Good luck in the challenge.

great job capturing this. I would have been tempted to crop very closely, losing the very top and bottom.

Talk about right time, right place. Nice capture. Technical issues hold this back somewhat -- I would score it better if the whole body were in focus, which could be achieved with a smaller apeture. You have the action incely in focus. I admire that you caught the shot at all, so don't be discouraged by my comment.

This makes me sad. Why did you not stop this terrible act? I want to cry.
04/14/2004 12:25:33 AM
Colors are amazing! Is that a natural color for this bird?
