OK I thought I would try the latest trend of reverse layers or underlays. I have to say it was a bit weird and I'm not entirely happy with how this turned out but its all a learning experience :)
First of all another shot from the beach this time my oldest daughter. She is 11 and I dont know where got that pose from! She is incredibly young and naive in many ways. I think its perhaps a bit too much Project Runway! Its our favourite TV show that we love to watch together :)

Anyway as per the underlay way I started with the texture first
Then I tried to put my image on top but it was waaaaay too big!So using image size I resized to 640X480 coz thats the only image size I know! Trouble is it distorted the image :( So dont know what to do about that!
I used hardlight as my blending mode and it was funny because everything is opposite to what I was used to! 100% was the least amount of texture and 1% is the most! I kept it at 100%. Then my next funny problem was I wanted to erase some of the texture on the face and it kept on adding more texture! I couldn't figure it out eventually I realised I needed to be on the texture layer which was the first layer and then I could erase!
LOL not a very successful first attempt but I learnt something and I hope someone else does too ;)

Perfect overlay, it's rusts blend so well with the greens of her dress. Wonderful photo as well.

The over/underlay works so well with the scene. The pose is Project Runway-ish. I think the texture can be used over and over again.

Really cool and the colors of the layer match perfectly her hair and dress. Aren't you clever???

wow charlie .. i really like this .. so unusual .. the colours are excellent too ..
i think if you wanted to have your daughter undistorted maybe you could start with the photograph of her .. bring the overlay/texture in, but first duplicate the background layer in the photog of your daughter .. highlight the background layer so the overlay/texture layer comes in between them and then you'd have the overlay as an underlay .. underneath the duplicated layer of your daughter .. ??
i'm not sure if this makes any sense and if i've got wot you've done right .. but thought i'd just chuck that in .. :)

The texture is the bomb! The colors go so well with her hair and dress. The distort makes this really interesting - like I'm looking at it through a weird lens - I think it works.

She does look like she's caught a bit of runway fever, Charlie! She really is such a pretty girl. That hair is just the most gorgeous color. i'd agree that the distortion is a bit much here, and perhaps she could do with a wee bit less rustiness on her skin.

I love the editing, but not keen on the distorted pose. She's gorgeous and growing up so fast!!! Maybe a square crop would work?

I like the texture but I think I would have erased it from her skin for a better effect :)

That texture really goes with her hair! Gorgeous girl.

Eleven going on twenty-five. You've got your work cut out for you! ;)

Hmmm, this is really interesting. I think I probably would have erased the underlay beneath her face. I can't decide about the arms. lol. I think your choice of underlay was perfect with the color matching and I think that overall it's a great image.
