 I put a inverted jar inside the cup that came up almost to the brim. Then I put a little bit of coffee in the cup and poured sugar on top. That didn't work because too much sugar dissolved into the liquid. I substituted oyster sauce for the coffee and put some soap bubbles around the edge to make it look a little more convincing.

It seems a little bit noisy and I'm not sure about the black background.

I like the use of black background, the stopped motion of the falling sugar. I could have positioned the camera to the cup's level and also moved the sugar jar a bit away from the cup.
