I think the B/W actually detracts from this one. I think it might make it easier to tell the rock from the tree with a little color. On first glance, It kind of looked to me like the large mass coming from top left to right might be part of some really massive root system. But on further inspection I see the only tree part is the little one growing out of the bottom of the photo so it was confusing to me in B/W. |

There's really nothing that catches the eye, could use a focus object. I like the composition and the black and white conversion. I dunno, something about it I really like just can't put my finger on it. Could be the darkness and shadow in the center around the plant. I gave it a 7. |

This is a picture that the effect of having the plant in its original color may have helped. |

The black & white subject is fitting for the stones, but the season of winter makes the subject of the tree rooted in the rock look like it has died. Leaves and signs of life would have given this Ansel Adams photo more truth to speak. |
