 This was a fun one to come up with. I used a fog machine in the box along with a desk lamp with a red light bulb facing upwards or as close to up as it would turn, a little to much on the back but I still liked the way it looked and the lamp just wouldn't bend up anymore. The background is a black sheet with stars on it that was taped to the wall and under the box. I used indirect lighting so it wasn't very bright.
Darkened the shadows around the box and lightened the highlights. Increased the saturation and contrast, soft light and a little neat image.

This is unique, and very creative to get it to look so believable with such simple editing steps. Your technique description reminds me very much of the days of silver and chemistry photography. The image is a very nice reality bender.

Pretty cool idea. The light on the front corner of the box takes away from the outer space feel of the composition.

It's kind of a cut and paste-ish looking photo and not very realistic looking. However - it's a wonderful effort of trying to make it look real and very creative. I can't believe that somebody would have asked for validation. For the hassle of having to go through that, I'll give you a 10. Plus, I love that Beatles song...!
