 This month I had the incredible experience of shooting a family of barred owls right in my back yard! This is the mother, and there are at least two fledgling owlets (I suspect there are three, but I've only seen two at the same time). I've probably taken over 2000 photos of these magnificent birds in the past few weeks, and this shot was from the very first day. They've become so used to me by now that I can get within a few feet without disturbing them. Wow!

Although there wasn't anything special about the editing (typical Levels, Curves, Saturation & such), the original was mud by comparison. That's partly because it was shot in RAW, but also highlights the importance of getting the exposure and focus right, then proper processing!

Shannon....that is my barred owl! Send that silly guy back to me....I have been looking for him. Fabulous capture - the details and colors are outstanding (eh hem...and much much better than my attempt last year...)

Nice environmental shot. Personally I'd have cloned the one leaf over the face, if it looked good that way. Otherwise a wonderful shot.

I would love to photography an owl. I think they are so cool. The centered composition works perfectly. Great detail in the feathers and catch lights in the eys.
