Sometimes it's difficult to get close enough to the athlete to block out the sun, but this shot comes close.

Editing: Crop, then clone brushed out some of the bar-hanging hardware and some specks on my lens (note: always clean your lens before shooting important photos!).

Greetings from the Critique Club!

Hiya Doug, nice to meet you.

I know you already know this, so I will keep it short - if he was in front of the sun, much better photo.

Another suggestion is to back off this composition a bit. I don't normally say that, usually I say the opposite! But in this case, maybe the bar he's jumping is TOO simple. A bit of perspective or even a show of the height may enhance your shot.

Happy shooting and good luck,
Mav

I understand the difficulties involved taking a shot like this, but IMO the glare is just too much.

Great capture of the moment. Nice composition. Lens flare doesn't add anything.

Good action catch. Good subject. Personally not wild about the light effect although I'm sure that's what you were going for.
