This shot was very grainy, but of all the pictures I took on this day, this one really stood out to me. It expresses so many feelings. You can see in her face her exaustion, her relief that her baby is OK, her concerns for the future, the stress of having plans changed... I had to use a lot of sharpen, blur, sharpen, blur some more, etc. to try to get the graininess out, which ended up giving it a watercolor look that probably won't go over very well.
Anyway - this is my first granddaughter, born 8 weeks early on June 28. She left the NICU on July 24 and is now doing well at home.

Thank you everyone for the great comments - they more than made up for the low score, and I learned how to set my ISO on my camera! This is still my favorite challenge entry.
Gabby is home and healthy and a joy! You will be seeing more pictures of her! |

From an image quality point of view, this is a poor photo and was destined to get creamed in a free study.
From an emotional impact point of view, this is one of the strongest images I have seen on this site. The look in her eyes, I can't even describe how I interpret it. You really, really caught an exceptional moment in time. |

More than a thousand words here. Strong composition, critical moment, brave entry. 10. |

First I'm going to say this is a touching/powerful image -
now i'm going to critique it on what I see outside of being a mother myself -- the border in my opinion destracts from the subjects; (there is already a really lot of white
I do wish the child was in focus as well but obviously the title makes the woman the subject (tho i think it could also mean the child, overwhelmed by entry into the world/and all those tubes/etc..) -- I wish the woman was more in focus/sharper but I'm guessing this is not done for effect? her eyes are very full of expression and are a powerful drawing point in the image-- overall its a nice capture -- I hope the little one is doing well & look forward to future shots of these two in other challenges! |

The post processing takes away from the impact of the subject matter. |

I'm not a fan of the processing used here, but there is such strong emotion at play, and the title is so apt, that I am voting this highly. Her expression says so so much to me.....I well remember that phase in our own lives too. Just look after them both, very well. Great photo. |

How early was the baby? My daughter was born 7 weeks premature and didn't have her lungs fully developed yet. She was on CPAP at first. It's something that is hard to go through, she was our first and we had no clue there was any complications until she came early. |

wow...very sad...the image is strong and emotive, but the quality lets it down...the graininess doesn't help it, and the vignetted border kinda kills it with distraction...perhaps if the border was different??? 5 |

wow, look at that baby. I almost missed the baby here though. She does look overwhelmed, nice capture on her expression. |
