Across from the train (BART) station in the town of Lafayette, a landowner has erected a number of crosses on a hillside, one for each U.S. soldier killed in Iraq, as a combination memorial to the fallen soldiers and protest of the war. I've wanted to shoot it for a while, and thought the Fallen challenge was a good opportunity to do so. So I took BART into work on Friday, so I could shoot the crosses in the morning and evening light. Was hoping for some fog, but it didn't happen on this day, but I did get this shot in the morning, which, with just a bit of processing (:>P) evoked the kind of image I was going for.
Bumped contrast and punched colors in Lightroom and added a vignette, then some levels and contrast adjustments in PS Elements to give it an edge, desaturated it a bit, then a big Hue adjustment to make it kinda gloomy and dark. A bit of USM and a fair amount of Neat Image to finish it off.
