I had previously gone to a great deal of trouble to make a big setup with wine glasses smashing on the ground... I just got the smashing glass pic the way I want it... the juice was splashing perfectly, the glass shards were nicely in focus... I submitted the pic and it was all done... Then, i went for a walk today (sat aug 2...) and saw this flower that had fallen on the ground and I immediatedly knew that i had to use this as my submission... the title is obvious... the flower is in a hopeless state... so beautiful, so precious... but hopelessly fallen to it's death.

I really like this image.. the DOF is great and the flower protrays the emotions of hopelessness well.. it would be nice if it was a little bit sharper and a couple bright spots around the rocks in the background were muted.. Nice job

The lighting looks a little harsh on this - there are sharp shadows on the flower. It looks as though this were taken outside. I've found that shooting in harsh sunlight often results in photos with really hight contrast... but if I wait for a overcast, cloudy day, the light is much softer and yields better photos. Hope this helps! :)
