Not having run a critique in such a long time, I decided to dive in and do a few this weekend. First one I pulled. So here we go.
Does it meet the criteria......in a way I say yes, obviously the photographer has fallen and this is the frame that was taken from the ground. Did it meet what the voters thought for the challenge? No, but its outside the box and knowing the photographer now I'd say they will likely understand the photo.
Technicals on the shot. The stark contrast of the flower and the background(sky) work very well, however I wish there was a bit of reflected or fill light brought to the front of the flower to bring out just a bit more detail and perhaps make the color pop just a touch more.
The perspective and crop work for me as well.
Overall I'd say it likely landed about where I would have put it in the voting based on technicals and meeting the challenge. It doesnt stand out and it doesnt suck. I'd say it works well and with a touch of work it would make a cool print. In fact taking it to a paintery effect and a large print I could see it on the doctors office wall with a bit of blue sky and clouds 'shopped into the background.

I haven't ever seen a spotted lily like this - I love the way that it reminds me of a beetle, and then has a beetle riding on it! There is a pleasing hint of translucence to the petals, and I like the composition with the use of negative space. When I was voting I remember thinking that the photo didn't really communicate the concept of 'Fallen' to me, although I can see from your notes why you chose the subject you did. |

I'm sorry but I'm not really sure how this portrays "fallen." the colors are very beautiful though! |
