 This was quite an evening for mereorite sightings in fact, one came sailing across the sky overhead not far from us while we were still setting up. I wish we had been able to capture an image of it. Maybe next time.

Postscript: Yes, a meteorite actually passed across the sky not far from us as we were setting up to shoot stars over the lake. It looked like a bright fireball with some red in it, almost like a flare except it was moving across the sky from east to west. There was an article in the paper the next day about the mereorite sitings in our area and it explained that these are not uncommon in the weeks preceeding the annual Perseid meteorite shower August 12.

reminds me of maine in the summer when there are no city lights around. i am in nyc and hardly see a skylight like this. great work

Thank you all for the wonderful comments! This was indeed a special image for me in that it was not planned in fact, my original intent was to capture some images of the moon. But the moon never appeared so I ended up capturing images of the stars instead. But most exciting of all was the fireball that sailed overhead while I was there. At first, I thought it was stray fireworks but the next day there was an article in the local paper about the meteorite sitings in the area. I think this was a very lucky night for me, my first ribbon entry and my first meteorite siting!

It's a 10 of a photo - but not for this challenge. This was certainly taken far after the sun set, beyond what I'd call 'Evening'. It looks like an evening skyline but I'd venture to say it's light pollution from a city over the horizon. If I'm wrong, just let me know and I'll bump the score twofold.

Absolutely superb, the stars liven up the otherwise empty upper sky and balance the whole image, it's a clever and beautiful way to compose such a landscape. Refined colors too. A fav.
