Day 7 of 30 Flowers
Still not sure about whether I captured what I wanted with this one. What I liked was the way the little stamens(?) were peeking out of the petals in an orderly fashion, like little alien guards in a defensive circle.
Well, anyway. This little waterlily lives in my half-barrel water garden with a bunch of Mosquito Fish (gambesia) who are supposed to eat any mosquito larvae which dare to hatch there. The fish have survived and reproduced for the past couple of years so I know they've found something to eat, but they haven't saved me from being eaten alive if I forget to put on bug spray. The lily only blooms when the water is warm enough, and right now it's like bath water!
And yes, I went back to the extension tubes ;-) 36mm for this one.
PP - converted from RAW, levels, white balance, burnt inside some, dodged sentinels, added border, resized, sharpened with noise reduction. |

Lovely! I'd like to see a shot of your whole half-barrel set-up, if you would... :) |

Got to agree with violinist. That was my very first though also: french fries! The intense yellow the frying oil. |

i like the choice of intense close up for these flowers - very unworldly looking |

...there's a story there. Sorry your kid doesn't have driving privileges for a while. You are a patient mom.
back to the point at hand: Hey, those alien 'worms' are cute and fun. If it was mine, I might crop down to the top of the sharp guys and the left side to the leaf. The slightly OOF leaves cradle them, and give a base of operations.
Move it around on your monitor. See what you think. |

Sorry to hear about your stress (is your daughter going back to school?)--my apartment complex just kind of emptied out at the end of July as many people went back to school, I can park anywhere now! "D
Waterlilies are so interesting. I never thought of having a half-barrel with a waterlily & I might just give it a try next summer. It would give the birds some water to drink, too.
I can see sentinels in this, & I like the DOF. I am a complete sucker for waterlilies, though! |
