In an advanced editing challenge, you should really put some effort into cleaning up your backgrounds. Of course, this effort should ideally made before you *shoot* the photo, but in this case, you can use cloning to get rid of all those dirt specks too. As it is, it shows a lack of polish and care towards the finished product.

i like the composition, but personally i think that it would have been nice to either have a completely clean image, or more spices

Could have turned out better. Some more light on the utensil or even polish it up a bit and this would look better.
I like the idea and the composition is good.
