Nice to meet you Andrew.
I think one major point was underscored by a comment you received: the background is distracting. You can't always control these things, but if you are able to change your aperture or even the angle you shoot from, sometimes you can dramatically improve your composition just by focusing on the stuff around your main subject. In this case, you took a wonderfully focused shot (don't mind the 'blurry' stuff - your subject is in focus) and just didn't quite get there with the composition or technical quality.
This is an interesting bug - I don't think I'd like to see one like it. lol

Nice idea - the "arrows" in the web pattern seem to be telling the visitor which way to go. But unfortunately the backgroud being so busy and bright destroys the image photographically. Compsitionally, I think it would have been better if the beetle was not so centered. |

Fascinating find. I like how the blurred parts of the web in the foreground look like little arrows. Nicely composed. |
