 This young lass does voluntary time at the animal refuge, looking after animals that are brought in have been dumped or for owners care, the dog is mine called Niki, we take her to be washed and leave a $10 donation for the animal refuge each time about every 4 weeks..

I tried to catch the visual expression in her eyes as well as Niki's.
Unfortunately IMO voting is done without taking the time to take in the image to fit the challenge details.

Compassion is a road less traveled by many in the world today.

I didn't vote this challenge, but this one did catch my eye when I perused the entries one afternoon. I thought it quite appropriate for the challenge, though it did rely on the title a bit. I think it works well in B&W and has enough contrast, too.

Brian, I like the image, and I understand your thought, but the image didn't give any indication that this young lady was anything other than a pet owner drying her dog. I think there needed to be something more that would indicate she is volunteering her time (working for no pay) -- dog pens behind her or an organizational sign somewhere in the image, etc.

Was out of town and didn't get to finish commenting, but I want to commend you for stepping outside the box. My advice (having done a non-traditional entry for this challenge as well) is to make sure your image speaks to the theme of the challenge without having a title - don't make the literalites think. That being said - shoot for yourself!

I would like to think that 'Compassion' is not a 'Less Traveled' road but in today's World, maybe it's going that way? As for the photography: nice dof and the conversion works well. Man, that's some smooth complexion!
