I had a different shot in for the FS, but then this guy appeared in my butterfly bush and I'd never seen one before. It was an overcast day with intermittent rain (hence the little drops on his antennae) but there was enough light coming through his wings to make for some really nice shots. He even stayed put while I ran back inside and got my 20mm extension tube. When I looked at all the pictures he really seemed to be watching me, to the point of turning his head to follow the camera. He wanted to be a star ;-)
PP - converted from RAW, cropped, 2nd layer (Gaussian blur, dodged butterfly and flower, merged in multiply mode at 50% transparency), dodged butterfly some more, colored/burnt upper part of wing that was fuzzy from a foreground leaf, reduced noise, added border, resized, sharpened. |

It's rare I see a great frontal shot like this. It's like it was posing for you. Lovely colours, superb composition and that pose, but I already said that. |

Ooohhh, one of the best insect shots in the challenge, the DOF and POV are great! |

Nice shallow DoF. There seems to be some pixel-smearing that makes me think you overcropped, or your ISO was way too high. |

I love the drops. Image seems a bit flat overall. |

Sweet! I like that you can see the little beads of water on his left antenna. The colors are vibrant and the image is well composed. |
