 My son, taken on the beach at Sandy Hook, New Jersey. The original (below) was good, but I didn't like the shadow cast by his nose, so the obvious choice was to crop it. Didn't need the goggles either once I did that. Processing was mostly in the blue channel.

Thanks to yospiff for the help choosing a Free Study entry and the tips on how to prepare this.

It's subtle -- the suntan lotion on his nose, the sand on his upper lip and especially his shoulder, the water in the background...

Well, the 'Happy' part is pretty obvious. The 'Beach'? Anyway, no really 'Wow!' factor to me but as a photo I think it's a 10.

I love this - the clarity and closeness and crop are just great :-) I'm sure you'll get some "want to see the whole face" comments ignore them! :-) personally... I -like- the close half and creativity :-)

Nice shot. I like the crop, and the amount of detail is great! Lighting is perfect (and, I assume all natural!) and you made the right call with a B&W conversion.

a little dodge.burn in his eye would have really sold this image, but other then that, i love the candid feel to this. nicely done
