Congrats, Doc! You got me by two places :-) And I do love a good preying mantis photo, especially with such shallow DOF! |

This was my pick for top-spot, and while a top 10 is nothing to sniff at, it boggles my mind that some of the things that beat this... well... beat it.
It's not only the technical aspects either, but this mantis exudes a personality that shouldn't be attributable to an insect. The pose, the lighting, the isolation, it all comes together in an amazing, amazing way. Incredibly amazing. Too amazing for these dingbats that vote on such things ;) |

Very cool subject, I like what you chose to focus on! Cool square framing, too, I'm a sucker for that. |

Outstanding macro, love the shallow DOF here. It really helps to give this shot a cool creepy factor. |

Oh wow. This is beautiful. He looks like he's posing for you. Absolutely lovely image. I love how he fades out of focus and only his head and arms are poking through. Wonderful => 9 |

He's looming at me, and he's just a bug! I love the way things seem to materialize out of the background in very shallow DOF shots like this. |

Wow! That dof is very shallow and you have got sharp focus just where it is needed. |

Mantis's are sooo cool. This may have been the shallowest DOF you could have gotten. Nice job. |
