WOW! My sincere thanks to all of the voters for my first ribbon. This feels great!! This was quite a surprise when I looked at the results this morning. I'm stoked!

I feel that I've grown as a photographer quite a bit over the last year, and I have dpchallenge and it's members to thank for that. So thanks!

A special thanks to posthumous for his awesome comment during the challenge. Thanks for keeping me grounded. :)

Sometimes it takes a long time to come up with a concept for a challenge. When I saw the topic for this challenge, this picture pretty much popped into my head looking how you see here.

This was shot on my dining room table, which has a nice shine to it. I placed each feather one by one to build the 'nest'.

The lighting was tough to get exactly how I pictured it.. I must have moved my umbrella around 50 times. I finally placed the umbrella almost completely parallel to the subject, which completely darkened the background, while still lighting the subject with interesting shadows and that nice reflection.

Editting was minimal. Shadows/Highlight, upped the exposure a bit, sharpening; pretty much everything within Lightroom 2 which is fantastic.

I certainly don't want to make predictions about the score, but another 6+ would be great because it would knock the last 5 off of my front page! :)

I laughed out loud at "Safe from Ham", it is a better title.
I didn't quite get this either.

Absolutely wonderful photo. Sharp and clean. I love the minimalism of this image... the border is okay. The DOF is a bit too shallow for my liking. Well done... one of my favourites from this challenge.

Can't offer anything helpful to improve your photo nor can I find any fault. The subtle reflection is awesome: great job on the lighting. It's gotta be a ribbon contender or top 10 for sure. 10

At first I thought it said "Safe from Ham." That would have been a much better title. As to the photo, well, I don't know why the egg is on feathers on a black tabletop and the composition doesn't make any sense.
