 I wanted to go a different route, hopefully communicating the concept of safety without necessarily showing something used for safety (helmet, bandage, etc.). These strike me as evoking an idea of calm and safety.

Using natural light, my new EF50mm 1.8 II lens, and levels, contrast, saturation processed.

A nice photo! Not sure if I'd describe these as 'gold'. Maybe a colour adjustment would have helped? Seems like a bit of a shoehorn for 'safety' IMHO.

Back to comment: I really am having problems seeing how this relates to safety. I love the shallow depth of focus and the lighting. My primary suggestion for improvement is to crop out the white blob on the right edge of the image. Hope you aren't getting totally killed by the DNMC police.
