Giant windmill, obviously forming the letter "Y"
Didn't really know where this windmill farm was. Did a little research, plugged in the closest town on my GPS and took off. When I got close, I could see them in the distance. Arrived with the slightest amount of light left and a decent vantage point to catch one windmill and the sunset. Great for color, horrible for stop action.
Tried to keep ISO low enough to reduce noise, but high enough to freeze the rotating blades, which was not as successful as I would have liked in this shot. This was as tight a crop as I dare (to avoid emphasizing that shortcoming). Although I expect to receive some negative comments about the crop, I think it's justified because of the title, showing a little more of the "Realm" for context. Looking at other photos I took with very tight crops, I think this really adds to the presentation.
On the plus side, in addition to having an awesome sky, I was pleased with the glowing red "eyes" as we view the backside of this "monster" structure (pun intended). Hope it adds to the "mystique" of the photo and bonus points. ;)
PP: Convert from raw. Adjusted WB, curves, shadows/highlights, noise reduction, resize, sharpen, add border.
Thanks for looking! |

Very nicely done. I am sure this would have taken several shots to get one right. |

Wee bit dark but that 2 tonal sky looks lovely. Nice catch on the Y. |
