My mum and I went to the beach, found a good spot and cleared the sand of shell bits and seaweed, then I positioned a few nice shells where her foot was going to be. She donned the doomed shoes (they were old ones of hers that are no longer comfy to wear and therfore expendable) and I positioned her feet the way I wanted. Then I got out the ice-cream scoop I'd brought with me and the tub of ice-cream we'd bought moments before and put a freezing cold dollop right on her poor toes. It is, of course, supposed to be that she has dropped the scoop from her cone onto her foot. After the initial shock, she managed to hold the pose for several shots, then she lobbed the ice-cream off and we had a laugh riot trying to mop up her bright red, freezing cold ice-cream coated foot before she could put her own shoes back on. Luckily nobody saw us, so she retained her dignity and we weren't carted off by the men in white coats. The shoes and half-melted ice-cream went in the bin and we lived to fight another day.
I toyed with calling this 'A Seaside Situation' or 'A Seaside Sticky Situaton' but settled on Beach Bummer, hope I made a good choice!
Editing was really minimal on this shot; I just resized it, did a little crop and then sharpened.

During challenge comment:
I held steady at 6.00 all week and in the last few hours of deadline day, I've been shunted down to 5.90. Very disappointing, those last-minute vote droppers. Still looking at a personal best but it would've been nice to break 6 for once. *Sigh* |

I thought this would have scored higher - I gave you an 8. Your mom sounds like a great assistant and wonderful partner in crime |

i would say this is one of the mor einteresting icea cream shots! the beach just adds alot to it and the fact that it fell on the shoe! great twist to a simple picture! love it |

Great idea... ice cream plopping down on a nice pair of sandals, ruining them no doubt - very well photographed.. I think the composition might be improved if you just had the shell on the left as the other three shells distract from the main focus of the photo. |

You could use the shoe as a cone. I think this is still good. In the sand you would have been stuck with a grainy ice cream, but the shoe saved it. |

Good photo. Would have been better if the ice cream would have been a different color/flavor. The brown almost makes it blend in with the sand. |

Good concept. The ice cream doesn't stand out very well against the brown sand though. Could have better lighting. |

Double bummer, sticky feet and no ice cream!
Like the rough textures and then the smoothness of the icecream. nice use of colour too |
