Hmmm. Not bad, but I think it might have worked better from the other end. re-shot form the needle at the same angle maybe.

I think maybe this is more perspective than proportion, but I really like it! Border adds instead of distracting, like so many do. Also, I like the low lighting, as it enhances the "mood" of the subject.

I would have preferred deeper DOF but like the light, the angle and the framing
Now, appropriate is not the same as proportionate (which it could be if one of the object's properties was related to something else ... did I miss what that other something is??)
