 A Dunnock photographed during one of my ringing sessions. Just a close-up that's heavily cropped. Massaged in Lightroom then NN, Tone Mapped, Levels, Saturation, USM and save for the web in PS3.
I love the colours of this species: light grey and deep reddish brown.
I have intentionally made the crop through the eye to enhance the emotional response. Nobody like a cropped eye.

My appreciation of this composition and photo grows even after the challenge. Fly free... ;-) Not a bad outcome but worthy of better, IMO.

From the thumb, it's clearly discernible what the subject is, but when you open it, it takes on a whole different look and story. Almost depressing in a way - a tale of a world in disarray.

I love the texture. I wish the eye was a little lower and to the right to more adequately use the rule of thirds.

I don't like the very strong reflection in the eye, and the cropping doesn't do anything for me. I think it would have been more interesting if the eye were less centered, not cropped, cropped more, or left out completely. I think the movement and texture in the feathering would make a stronger abstract image by itself and could still communicate an emotional quality. I don't think the eye, as it is here, adds anything. It is a very cool subject, though, and the lines are very striking.
