This is the same house that was the subject of my "Accidental letters" entry.
I like this view and processing much better, however the Letters entry needed to emphasize the M shape. Since this is for the freestudy, I can concentrate on doing what I want with it, which is to show how tilted this house is, but is still miraculously standing.
I first ran across this house about a year ago, taking a quick snap through the car window. I didn't have an opportunity to photograph it until now. This time I was by myself with nobody to be impatient over my stopping for 30 minutes to take pictures. Shot about 30 minutes or so before dark.
I tried a few new-to-me adjustments to bring out the detail and depth in this shot. I like how it came out. Had a hard time choosing a suitable crop for it, however.
Pre-challenge notes:
My wife says it does not do anything for her and that this dilapidated old house is an uninteresting subject. Scores of challenge winners on DPC tell me that old houses and barns are indeed interesting subjects. Now I have to use this one to see how it does. I expect it will either do well, or bomb out.
Post-challenge notes:
I thought this woudl be good for at least a high 5, but I seem to have missed that "broad appeal" target again. Judging from the voting breakdown, I did avoid a lot of the really low votes, and the comments tell me it had a lot of appeal to a few people. I'm on the right track, but not there yet.
Added 1/13/10: Seems it wasn't standing for much longer.

The overall blue tint looks unatural, I believe desaturating the blues a bit would contribute to a gloomier feel to this eerie image. |

Remarkably, one of the testing routines for Viagra was sticking it in chimneys, and then detonating a nuclear bomb near by.
It is an amazing drug. |

A cool subject, but I feel there is probably a better composition available, perhaps making user of a more dynamic perspective or angle. |

and now I have that song stuck in my head.."Don't you know I'm still standing better than I ever did...Looking like a true survivor, feeling like a little kid...I'm still standing after all this time..."
wonderful subject, you'd have a hard time getting me to leave a site like this. Not under your control but I wish there were more clouds in the sky. Not sure what it is but something about the area directly around the house is bothering me, seems like a fog or smoke but doesn't look right...nice picture anyway. |

Wow! Where was this for the abandoned building challenge!? Great find! It looks like something from a warped fairytale or something! Hard to believe it is "Still Standing". |

I want to learn how you did this processing. It's really amazing looking. And where on earth did you find such an awesome subject to shoot? This is great. I Love it. |

I would think the wind might have taken this down by now. |
