Thanks to my wonderful model, Mary Kate, who happened to be the first human model I ever shot.
I shot this at a high school in my area--it has these awesomely bright colored walls which I chose to, ahem, de-emphasize in this shot first by aiming a rather specular gold reflector on my subject, then burning a good bit in post (but not all the way out, I consider the BG to be an important element not to just throw away). Model was in shadow right next to direct sun, which I caught with the reflector and aimed at her face.
I love this shot, but it might be partially to do with how much work it took to make this passable. Due to metering issues, the original was totally blown out in so many places. But RAW brought back a great deal of detail, and from there, some clever cloning/healing allowed me to bring back even more. Mary Kate's upper hair and two of the balloons had to be almost entirely cloned back into detail.
Plenty of dodging/burning involved through a 50% grey layer. Further cloned out some awkward shadows on the nose. Oh, and finished with a curves layer and sharpening.
I never see shots this 'hip' do well on DPC; we'll see what you think of it. Can't wait :D
And yeah, this was the same shoot as my "Color in B/W" entry, but this one clearly wasn't within the bounds of Basic. And it didn't B/W up as nicely. And it's my favorite, so I wanted to save it for the FS.
I even gave it a French title. You'd better vote well ;) |

It was one thing to have a parent that was a photographer, thought Rose, but it is entirely another to have a parent that was a photographer and a professional clown.
Rose scowled and plotted her revenge, as her friends stood just off frame and laughed amongst themselves. |

I like the motion in the balloon strings. Nicely done portrait! |

Ah! They really are pink! This is decent, but it doesn't compare to your B/W shot. Of course, I gave that one a 10 so that's pretty hard to beat. :) |

She looks like she intends to pop those balloons. |
