One of the reasons I like DPC so much is it pushes me beyond my comfort zone to try new things. I have never done portrait photography before. Closest I've gotten is the last open challenge Bummer with my daughter. I have no studio, no lights, no fancy backgrounds.

I tried a few shots for the Pajamas challenge with my kids jumping on my bed, but they didn't come out very well as I couldn't get enough light in the room to stop them without blur.

So I tried portraits. We have a 3 panel screen that sits behind our TV so I pulled that out to work for a background. Put it in front of the TV and opened up the 2 big windows in the living room for light. Took several shots with my son and my daughter and this is the one I choose to go with. This is my son Jack, he's 9 but will be 10 in December.

For a score I've no idea what to expect. I'd be happy with a 5.5 and thrilled with a 6 or better.

Nice balance in contrast and light. Seems slightly underexposed. Content a bit too blah, but above average in this contest.

Turned out fantastic. Love the complementing background. It's almost like a well placed frame or vignette.
