This couple sell vegetables on the street near my work. Every day is a different scene with these two, and today she had a visitor and he was simply reading the paper. I love what it represents.
As for how I did the shot, obviously he wasn't looking so it was easy to take. I had my camera on aperture priority mode, I quickly shuffled up to f4.5 to get a little more depth of field so I'd capture his wife as well, pressed my spot-metering button (using the programmable buttons on the D200) and clicked a couple on continuous drive (I usually do this in street shooting to make sure I get a sharp, clear shot). I also use continuous focus for most of my street shooting, for the same reason.
As for processing, it's pretty basic stuff, send to B&W and sepia using CS3's B&W layer, some contrast and a border. Then sharpen and upload.
Not a great shot to start but I like what it represents for me. |

My favorite part of this is the unspoken interaction. He knows what she's doing without even looking, she knows where he is - same deal. And I love the light on her hair. Is this truly B&W with sepia or is there a hint of color? And thanks for sharing the shooting approach! |

The beautiful lighting makes this shot! Your choice to process this in sepia was an excellent one. I agree with what others have said about the strong sense of story behind this photo. Evokes a sense of serenity. |

This has a calming feel to it. Beautifully composed, and the lighting and focus are dead on. I love the sepia processing and slight vignette effect. Thanks, by the way, for posting such great details on how you got the shot.

Tremendous opening shot for this side challenge! Nice subject, and I love the sunlit woman in the background. And thanks for the advice on using the continuous focus. I tend to turn mine off as I often focus and then reframe the subject.
Your processing is very attractive, too. I really must learn how to use layers, etc! |

Great story to go with this image. I really like the processing. I would be interested to know what focal length you used. |
