 These are the suburbs (outside of Philadelphia), underneath a highway interchange, but I agree that the final product does look distinctively urban and does not evoke the notion of 'suburbia'.

I'm not totally happy with the final product, the original was pretty wacky with exposure and colors and flare everywhere and little dots and noise, not the best pic, and I did a rush job to edit into something serviceable. Can't believe it found 7th place! Wish I could have turned it into something more polished b/c I do like the composition.

Image: Placed my camera on my bag on the ground, tilted up, 30 sec timer. Convert to duotone, added overlay layers of black to darken edges/lights, white to lighten the undersides of the highways. Then some (admittedly sloppy) dodging and burning, curves for contrast, Resize, usm, neat image layer for the sky, s4w.

This is city at best. I don't ever remember a highway system running through the suburbs.

This seems a little more urban than suburban but, I like the shot for what it is as it's a great angle and nicely done.

See, this would really go into my personal categorisation as 'Urban'. With at least an intitial capital. It's a great shot, powerfully dynamic and compositionally strong. Love the detail of it, too.
