 Just a mini-wasp-like thing crawling around on my deck - couldn't fly, so I got the camera and was all up in his face.

OMG .. i cant imagine how scared that poor wasp was to have you in its face especially as he couldnt fly away .. at least you got an excellent shot of his discomfort .. interesting to see the differences on the wasps where you live and the ones on our firetrail .. :)
